TUTORING SESSIONS

Book an in-person or over-the-phone tutoring session with us to discuss any writing assignments. The focus of these appointments would be to cover how to approach writing your thesis, structuring your essay, planning your research, etc. We cannot help extensively with content, but general questions about content within the humanities department are worth asking.

REVISING A BIBLIOGRAPHY

Bibliographies are tricky and are the last thing you want to think about after completing a project. Tell us which citation style you're working with and we can go over those guidelines together.

Before you trust me with your papers, let me tell you some things about myself to prove that I can help you with your writing. I'm an honours English and Film Studies undergraduate student at Laurier with an 11.1 GPA. Hello! Welcome to Dupuis Editing. Before you start checking out all of the ways that we can improve your writing, I want to take a second to let you know why you should trust me and, in turn, the people I've hired, in the first place. I'm an honours English undergraduate at Wilfrid Laurier University with a concentration in creative writing. My team and I have devised a successful method of editing that both teaches the client and improves the quality of their work by making use of our academic experiences. I can't wait to work with you!

Hi there, I’m Julia and I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with you!

I am a recent Laurier M.A. graduate and I also hold an Honours degree in English Literature and History from Trent University. I have been a private tutor for some time and had the opportunity to teach English at the university level during the 2019-2020 academic year. I was nominated and chosen as a finalist for the Laurier Student Teaching Excellence Award and take great pride in providing students with encouraging and personalized writing advice. I look forward to reading your work and I am really excited about the chance to work with you!

AVIANNA DEL PIERO

Tutor

Hello! My name is Avianna and I am an English Major and History Minor at Laurier.

I was elected as Chairperson for the Laurier Undergraduate Journal of the Arts (LUJA) for 2019-2020, meaning that I read dozens of essays and helped ensure the publication of LUJA Volume 6.

In the past year I have also been selected as the winner of the Barbara Parker Memorial Scholarship for academic achievement and the Weldon-Misser Prize for an essay written on poetry.

I have written more essays than I would care to count, and I am excited to help you with any aspect of that process, whether it's planning, real-time edits, or thesis development. I look forward to working through it together with you!

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

Testimonials
Charlotte Kenny (2019); Testimonial for Dupuis Editing's services.

Charlotte Kenny

In my final year at Laurier, I was lucky enough to have Lexi's help with editing my papers. I was under a lot of pressure to keep my spot as an honours student and Lexi helped edit most of my work, allowing me to get amazing marks. I also had one-on-ones with her where she went through my papers with me; she didn't just edit my work but showed me how to fix my mistakes and correct my grammar. This allowed me to turn in A level work!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Editing | Payments

WILL EDITORS TELL ME WHAT INFORMATION NEEDS TO BE CITED?

We will not tell you on a sentence-level what needs to be cited; this is something that is really important for students to become sufficient in themselves. However, if we notice a pattern of missed citations, we will note this in the general areas for improvement and provide you with sources on how to address this issue.

DO I PAY ONLINE OR WITH CASH?

The invoice that I send you will have a link to pay online with a credit or debit card. For sit-downs you can bring cash to the meeting. Regardless, no editing will be handed over until some kind of money is exhanged.

DO EDITORS PROVIDE CONTENT IF PARTS OF MY ESSAY ARE LACKING?

We never add content for students. The information, research, connections, etc. are up to you; our job is to help you learn how to communicate those things better.

HOW DOES THE PAYMENT METHOD WORK?

Once you submit your writing, we will take a look at the length and send you an invoice with a summary of what the editor will be doing and the amount that you owe.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY WORK TO BE RETURNED?

That's up to you! If you're willing to pay the 48-hour return fee, your work can be done within the same day - if timing permits. If you're  trying to save money and want to avoid the extra fee, just make sure that you submit two days prior to when you need it returned.

WHAT IF I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE PAYING ONLINE?

We are set-up with a software called Stripe. Stripe is PCI Level I encrypted so all of the transactions are protected from a potential data breach. Basically, your money is safe going through this online system.

If you really don't feel comfortable sharing that banking information, that is okay! We prefer E-Transfer anyways. Money can be E-Transferred to dupuisediting@gmail.com

ARE THERE OPTIONS FOR HOW YOU WILL REVIEW MY WORK?

There are two ways that we can proofread your work: grammar or structure (you will select one or both of those in the form where you submit your work)

Grammar: This option will mean that the editor will only look at the grammatical aspect of your writing.

Structure: This option means that the editor will only analyze the structural component of your essay. This would include how a paragraph is formatted and the overall composition of your piece.

ARE THERE REFUNDS IF I DON'T LIKE THE WORK YOU DO?

Unfortunately, regardless of your opinion on the returned suggestions, billable hours were still acquired. So, we still require compensation for our time. However, if there are major problems with the returned work, get in touch with the editor responsible, or Lexi directly, and one of our employees can take another look!

IS THIS SOMETHING WORTH PAYING FOR?

For some people, maybe not.

BUT! We can tell you what is more expensive than paying $20.00-ish: retaking a course, taking fewer classes a semester to be able to manage the workload (therefore paying for more semesters), having less availability at work because you need more time for school, having to pay full price for tuition because you just barely missed the mark for academic scholarships.

Think about it as the cheapest long-term investment you'll ever make.

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY WRITING?

Well, you're already on the website if you're reading this, so that's a good start. Next, you're going to go to the "Submit Your Writing" tab at the top or bottom of the page.

That page will provide you with detailed instructions on where to go from there. And, if you're still stuck, shoot us a DM on Instagram (@dupuisediting) or an email (dupuisediting@gmail.com) and we can go figure it out together! Good luck!
